The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) will take charge of a presidential council newly formed in the parallel administration of Sudan with the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), which is led by Abdel Aziz al-Hilu, as the vice president of the council.
This has been disclosed by the spokespersons of the Founding Sudan Alliance.
Insiders indicate that the RSF will take up the majority of positions in the new structure, around 40%, and SPLM-N will stand second by getting 30% besides the other alliance members who will be distributed the rest among them, such as the Revolutionary Front and a faction of the National Umma Party.
RSF and SPLM-N had the leadership tussles in the past that made the coalition delay in its formation, but they came to a deal with a political declaration that was signed in Nairobi on February 22. The aforesaid declaration is aimed at the creation of a Sudan that is democratic and decentralized with the separation of state and religion as they claim.
The presidential council of 15 will basically include the regional governors as well. The idea behind the alliance is to appoint an independent technocrat as prime minister rather than going by a political party representation as a basis for the position.
The new model of governance will be implemented in the form of eight regions in Sudan and a federal, regional, and local administrative system.
