Ethiopia’s Chief of General Staff, Field Marshal Berhanu Jula, and Rwanda’s Army Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Mubarak Muganga, signed the agreement on Thursday, expanding collaboration in various military sectors. The signing followed discussions between senior Ethiopian defense officials and Lt. Gen. Mubarak, who was on an official visit to Ethiopia.
According to a statement issued after the signing, the agreement covers cooperation in areas such as counterterrorism, military training, and capacity building. Major General Teshome Gemechu, Director General of External Relations and Military Cooperation at the Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF), emphasized that Ethiopia and Rwanda have maintained long-standing military ties and that this agreement aims to strengthen them further.
Brigadier General Patrick Karuretwa, Director of Rwanda Defense Force’s International Military Cooperation, highlighted the strong relationship between the two countries. He acknowledged Ethiopia’s past support for Rwanda and reaffirmed Kigali’s commitment to deepening its military partnership with Addis Ababa.
This agreement is part of Ethiopia’s broader strategy to strengthen military cooperation with various nations. In recent months, Ethiopia has signed similar agreements with Kenya, South Sudan, South Africa, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates
