President Paul Kagame of Rwanda has pardoned 32 convicts and granted parole to an additional 2,017 prisoners. The announcement was made following a Cabinet meeting on October 18, which included a Presidential Order for the pardon and a Ministerial Order for the parole releases.
Notable individuals among those pardoned include Edouard Bamporiki, former Minister of State for Culture, who was serving a five-year sentence for bribery and abuse of authority, and Emmanuel Gasana, a former Governor of Eastern Province, convicted for soliciting illegal benefits.
Other pardoned officials include Christian Rwankunda, the former Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Infrastructure, and Eric Serubibi, the ex-Director General of the Rwanda Housing Authority, both convicted of mismanaging public funds.
Several inmates from various correctional facilities across Rwanda were also pardoned as part of the broader release.
