SADC Leaders to Discuss Security Challenges in Harare
President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Chairperson of the Southern African Development Cooperation (SADC) Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation, will lead the Extraordinary SADC Organ Troika Summit in Harare on Wednesday.
The summit, preceding the SADC Heads of State and Government meeting chaired by Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa, will focus on the security situation in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The SADC Mission in the DRC (SAMIDRC), deployed in December 2022, aims to restore stability and support development in the region. Updates on its progress will be presented during the meetings, alongside discussions by senior officials and ministers.
Founded in 1980, SADC promotes regional cooperation, peace, and sustainable development among its 16 member states.
