Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, President of Senegal, emphasized the importance of unity in diversity for sustainable development and human dignity.
Faye expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation in the Sahel, once stable but now plagued by terrorism, and urged the UN Security Council to act, warning against foreign interference.
He also addressed the Palestinian crisis, calling for a ceasefire and a two-state solution, highlighting Senegal’s role as Chair of the Committee on the Rights of the Palestinian People.
Faye defined peace as not just the absence of war but also ensuring human dignity through access to food, housing, education, and healthcare.
He noted the rise in global hunger and called for reforms in global governance, particularly of the UN Security Council, IMF, and World Bank, to make them more inclusive.
He stressed Africa’s need for greater representation and urged action on economic injustice, illegal trade, tax evasion, and climate change, with industrialized nations financing an equitable energy transition.
