Seychelles President Wavel Ramkalawan and First Lady Linda Ramkalawan participated in a grand celebration marking 100 years since King Prempeh I’s return from a 24-year exile in Seychelles. The event, held in Kumasi, Ghana, was hosted by His Majesty Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II, King of the Ashanti Kingdom, and featured dignitaries including Eswatini Prime Minister Russell Dlamini, former Ghanaian President John Kufuor, and senior Ashanti leaders.
The commemorations included a visit to the Manhyia Palace Museum, a durbar in honor of the centenary, and a gala dinner hosted by the Ashanti King. In his address, President Ramkalawan highlighted the historical ties between Seychelles and Ghana, rooted in King Prempeh I’s exile from 1900 to 1924, and congratulated the King on his silver jubilee.
President Ramkalawan also delivered a sermon during a thanksgiving service at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Cathedral, emphasizing the enduring friendship between the two nations. The celebrations underscored shared history and the deep cultural connection between Seychelles and the Ashanti Kingdom.
