Once a part of the Nigerian national team and a player who experienced a significant decline after his shining seasons, Simy Nwankwo has now become the third-highest scoring Nigerian player in Serie B history.
The 32-year-old forward found the net in the 89th minute during Sunday’s match against Carrarese, securing the final goal in his team Salernitana’s 4-1 victory. This goal brought Simy’s tally to 38 in Serie B (Italian Second Division). Ahead of him are former Parma star Osarimen Ebagua with 62 goals and Jerry Mbakogu with 43 goals.
Simy Nwankwo was also the highest-scoring Nigerian player in Serie A before Victor Osimhen arrived in the league. While Simy achieved this milestone with an impressive 34 goals, Osimhen surpassed him by scoring 65 goals in a relatively short stint at Napoli.
However, Atalanta’s forward Ademola Lookman is also closing in, having already netted 31 goals. It is possible that Lookman could surpass Simy’s record in just a few more games.
