Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi met with Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa on Tuesday. The meeting took place during the Extraordinary Arab Summit in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital. It was their first high-level discussion since Al-Sharaa took office. Talks focused on Syria’s political future and regional stability.
According to Egyptian Presidency Spokesperson Mohamed El-Shennawy, Al-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s support for the Syrian people. He stressed the need for an inclusive political process that represents all Syrians. He also warned against excluding any group, as this could prolong instability.
Al-Sisi also emphasized Egypt’s commitment to Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. “Egypt categorically rejects any encroachment on Syrian land,” El-Shennawy stated. He made it clear that Cairo opposes foreign interference that could further destabilize Syria.
On his part, Al-Sharaa expressed a desire to strengthen ties with Arab nations, especially Egypt. He highlighted the need for cooperation to advance shared interests and Arab unity.
Al-Sharaa also praised Egypt’s efforts to promote regional stability. He recognized Cairo’s role in advocating for Arab territorial integrity. He further emphasized the importance of collaboration in solving common challenges.
This meeting comes at a time of shifting regional alliances. Arab states are reassessing their approach to Syria after years of conflict. Egypt remains cautious, balancing diplomatic engagement with security concerns.
While no major decisions were announced, the talks signaled a possible shift in Egypt-Syria relations. Cairo continues to push for a political solution that ensures stability while upholding national sovereignty.
