The Somali National Army (SNA), supported by U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), carried out targeted airstrikes near Bulo Burte in the Hiiraan region. The strikes were aimed at preventing an imminent Al-Shabaab attack on the district.
Somali officials confirmed that the operation is part of a broader strategy to weaken Al-Shabaab’s ability to launch attacks on key areas. A spokesperson from the Somali government stated, “This action underscores the strength of our alliance with international partners in combating terrorism and ensuring the safety of our people.”
The spokesperson further stressed the critical role of military cooperation between the SNA and AFRICOM, asserting that such efforts reflect a global commitment to fighting terrorism in Somalia. The U.S. and other partners have been providing essential support, including intelligence sharing, training, and logistical assistance, as part of a comprehensive approach to counter regional terrorist threats.
While the Somali government did not disclose the exact number of militants killed in the airstrike, it reaffirmed its dedication to eradicating militants. The government also called for continued international support in the pursuit of long-term peace and security in Somalia.
