Somalia’s National Army (SNA) carried out security operations in the Bakool region on Wednesday, aiming to fortify positions ahead of a larger offensive in Southwest State aimed at dismantling Al-Shabaab strongholds.
The operations focused on the areas of Wargolole, Hooyaley, and Abagbeday, located north of Hudur district. A senior officer from the 9th Brigade of the 60th Division explained that the primary goal was to secure Hudur and enhance security in preparation for more extensive military action.
The operations proceeded without reported casualties or engagements with Al-Shabaab forces, according to the officer.
This comes on the heels of Somalia’s Ministry of Defense announcing the death of over 40 Al-Shabaab fighters earlier in the week, following intense military action in the Hiiraan region. Federal forces, in coordination with local fighters, targeted key sites along the Shabelle River, including Beera Yabaal and Addow Gurey, as part of efforts to reclaim critical territories.
