Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Asmara, Eritrea, for a working visit aimed at bolstering bilateral relations and addressing key regional issues.
President Mohamud received a warm reception at Asmara International Airport, where Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki welcomed him. Discussions between the leaders are expected to focus on enhancing ties between the two nations and addressing regional and international topics of shared interest.
This visit is President Mohamud’s first official trip to Eritrea since the October 2024 trilateral summit with Eritrea and Egypt. At the summit, the countries agreed to strengthen Somalia’s capacity to safeguard its borders, forming what analysts have described as a strategic alignment with implications for the region.
