Somalia is set to receive a humanitarian aid ship from Türkiye, carrying essential food supplies to support communities facing food insecurity. The initiative, organized by Türkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) in collaboration with İyilik Yolu Humanitarian Aid Association, aims to provide relief to those in need, particularly during the upcoming Ramadan period.
The aid packages, prepared by İyilik Yolu and officially handed over to AFAD in Mersin, contain tons of food and essential supplies. The ship, departing from Mersin International Port, is expected to reach Somalia in the coming days, delivering much-needed assistance to vulnerable families.
İyilik Yolu Humanitarian Aid Association has been actively supporting Somali communities through various humanitarian projects, including food distribution, clothing, and income-generating initiatives. Last November, the organization carried out aid operations in Dusamareb and Guriel, providing food, warm meals, clothes, and Qur’ans, among other necessities.
Emrullah Orman, the president of İyilik Yolu, oversaw the shipment process in Mersin, emphasizing the organization’s long-standing commitment to Somalia. He highlighted the significance of this initiative, stating, “We are in Mersin for the departure of the ‘Goodness Ship’ organized by AFAD for Somalia. With the support of generous donors, we have entrusted these aid packages to AFAD officials. As Ramadan approaches, we hope this assistance brings relief to those in need.”
Orman also expressed gratitude to AFAD and its Accreditation, Civil Society Relations, and Volunteering Department Head, Hüseyin Ceven, for facilitating the aid shipment. He reaffirmed their ongoing commitment to standing with the Somali people until the crisis is alleviated.
The arrival of the aid ship underscores Türkiye’s continued humanitarian support for Somalia, strengthening the bonds between the two nations through relief efforts and long-term development assistance.
