Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Irro) has begun his inaugural official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), signifying strengthened relations between the two sides. The President traveled on a private jet provided by the UAE, highlighting the importance placed on this diplomatic engagement.
Accompanying him are senior officials, including the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Finance, and the Presidency, as well as intelligence and economic advisors.
The visit underscores existing UAE investments in Somaliland, such as the Berbera Port and the Berbera Corridor, pivotal projects enhancing trade links between Somaliland and Ethiopia, UAE is also targeting the management of Berbera Airport for long time. These initiatives have bolstered Somaliland’s role as a strategic trade hub in the Horn of Africa.
Somaliland claims unilateral independence 1991 from Somalia but it’s not internationally recognised, UAE is known for it’s interference in Somalia’s politics annually invites some regional leaders and Somali federal government leaders, UAE is accused by supporting insurgents and non government actors in some African countries like the RSF of Sudan which causes humanitarian situation for almost two years.
