South Africa has marked its 200th day without experiencing power cuts. Since taking responsibility on March 26, the state power utility, Eskom, has managed to avoid any power outages.
Additionally, Eskom reported that unplanned outages have decreased by 8.6%, and the energy availability in the country has improved by 7.7%.
For years, South Africa has faced recurring power cuts, and if the country can sustain this situation for a longer period, it could resolve one of the most significant issues in social life.
Five years ago, South Africa went 206 days without power outages, which was a national record. Now, Eskom aims to surpass this achievement this year. If this success can be maintained for a year, it could initiate a motivating cycle for the country.
Eskom’s CEO, Dan Marokane, stated, “In preparation for a competitive electricity market, this is a significant milestone to ensure energy security and attract investment to South Africa.”
