South Africa ranked 64th in the Opensignal Global Network Excellence Index, which evaluates mobile networks based on accessibility, 4G/5G download speeds, and network consistency. It placed ahead of other African countries on the list.
In terms of 4G/5G availability, South Africa ranked 58th, while it placed 69th for network consistency. The country ranked 81st globally for 4G download speeds but achieved a higher position at 32nd for 5G download speeds.
Mauritius, ranking 70th, was the second-highest African country on the list. It was followed by Morocco at 87th, Tunisia at 89th, Madagascar at 93rd, and Egypt at 95th. Namibia ranked 97th, while Kenya took the 100th spot.
Denmark topped the list, securing the first position.
The other countries in the top 10, in order, were South Korea, Finland, Norway, the Netherlands, Sweden, Taiwan, Iceland, Luxembourg, and North Macedonia.
Infrastructure issues on the continent have contributed to African countries ranking lower.
However, South Africa’s impressive performance in internet services and its strong 5G download speeds could have a positive impact on neighboring countries in the region.
