The African National Congress (ANC), South Africa’s ruling party, has reiterated its unwavering support for the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination, reaffirming its long-standing commitment to oppressed groups worldwide.
In a statement, the ANC condemned Morocco’s ongoing occupation of Western Sahara, describing it as a “clear violation of international law,” and urged the enforcement of United Nations resolutions that call for a referendum on Sahrawi self-determination.
The party emphasized its continued solidarity with the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) and its struggle for independence, reaffirming that the ANC has historically aligned itself with oppressed peoples since its founding. It also highlighted its commitment to ensuring the Sahrawi people’s right to freedom and independence, rejecting any actions that might undermine this position.
The ANC further stated that it will continue working with international allies, including Algeria, to support the Sahrawi people’s fight for their legitimate rights and freedom from colonial rule.
