Scotland 86 (17.5 overs): Mlaba 3-12, De Klerk 2-15
South Africa won by 80 runs.
With this score, South Africa eliminated Scotland from the Women’s T20 World Cup. Laura Wolvaardt, Tazmin Brits, and Marizanne Kapp each scored over 40 runs, leading their team to a dominant victory. Despite five different bowlers taking one wicket each for Scotland, Kathryn Bryce was the standout performer with 1-31. For Scotland, the top scorer was Katherine Fraser with 14 runs.
This result saw South Africa move to the top of Group A with 4 points, followed by England, who are on the same points. South Africa will face Bangladesh in their next match on Saturday, looking to secure another win before advancing to the semi-finals.
After the match, South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt commented, “Overall, we were excellent. I couldn’t have asked for more from my team. We wanted to be ruthless and show what we’re capable of in every aspect, so I’m really pleased with how we performed.”
Scotland captain Kathryn Bryce stated, “There were missed chances, which proved costly. Then we lost a few wickets early and fell far behind in the game. It’s really tough when you’re not used to being under that kind of pressure.”
Player of the match, South Africa all-rounder Marizanne Kapp, said, “I feel very confident. I’m at my best when I focus on the basics. In the end, it was a good total. We could have aimed for 180 considering where we were after the powerplay, but there’s always something to learn.”
