In today’s AFCON group matches, two teams from Group K, both already qualified for the next stage, went head-to-head.
South Africa, trailing in points before the match, defeated Uganda to take the top spot.
After a goalless first half, Thapelo Morena, who had just come on, scored South Africa’s opening goal in the fourth minute of the second half. In the 89th minute, substitute Patrick Maswanganyi added a second goal for South Africa.
Although Uganda lost, they will still advance alongside South Africa from the group.
Meanwhile, in Group C, Mauritania missed a major opportunity.
In this group, Egypt has already secured qualification, while the second spot remains up for grabs. Mauritania took an early lead with a stunning goal from Aboubakary Koita in the 7th minute, but they couldn’t hold onto it.
Botswana equalized just 10 minutes later through Gilbert Baruti. With no further goals in the match, Mauritania squandered a crucial chance to secure qualification and now must hope for a miracle. Botswana, on the other hand, must win their final game to advance.
