The Prince of Wales is in South Africa to attend the Earthshot Prize awards ceremony on Wednesday, marking the first time the event will take place on the African continent. Established four years ago, the Earthshot Prize aims to support innovations addressing climate change and other environmental challenges, with winners each receiving $1.3 million to advance their projects.
This year’s finalists include the Amazon Sacred Headwaters Alliance, which brings indigenous nations together to protect the Amazon rainforest, and the Alton Dala Conservation Initiative, which has worked to save the endangered Saiga Antelope.
During his visit, Prince William will also participate in a wildlife summit and other climate-focused engagements, marking his first trip to Africa since 2018.
