In a study examining internet and social media usage across 230 countries, South Africa ranked as the 6th country with the highest usage.
In this study, daily internet and social media usage in South Africa was recorded at 9 hours and 38 minutes.
Despite only 68.2% of South Africa’s population having internet access, there are an average of 7.8 social media platforms per person. Due to high engagement rates, South Africa ranks near the top of this list.
According to the results of the study, there are five countries with higher internet usage than South Africa. These countries, in order, are: China, where people use the internet the most in their daily lives, followed by the United Arab Emirates, the United States, India, and Indonesia.
The study utilized data collected globally starting from January 2024. The data has been obtained from the Social Media Engagement Index.
