Zulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini has officially canceled his upcoming wedding to Nomzamo Myeni, which was scheduled for later this month. In a letter addressed to KwaZulu-Natal’s Director-General Nonhlanhla Mkhize, the King instructed the immediate cessation of all arrangements linked to the wedding.
The monarch requested that all benefits, allowances, and security details previously allocated to Ms. Myeni be withdrawn immediately, with a specific directive for security services to end by midday on January 19.
King Misuzulu cited reasons beyond the Royal House’s control for the decision, emphasizing the necessity of terminating all preparations associated with the marriage.
The announcement comes amid legal disputes involving Queen Ntokozo Mayisela, the King’s first wife, who filed an urgent application at the Pietermaritzburg High Court to block the wedding. Queen Ntokozo argued that the union would violate South African laws on bigamy, as the two are in a recognized civil marriage.
Reports suggest that the wedding, originally planned for January 24–26 in Jozini, had already seen the payment of lobola and extensive preparations. However, tensions within the Royal Household and the legal opposition prompted its cancellation.
Queen Ntokozo, who married King Misuzulu in 2021 before his coronation, contended that another marriage would destabilize the Royal Family further. The couple, who share children, is also entangled in a divorce case.
In addition to the wedding’s cancellation, King Misuzulu recently dismissed his trusted advisor, Prince Simphiwe Zulu, adding to the Royal Household’s turbulent dynamics.
The developments highlight growing challenges within South Africa’s Zulu monarchy, as legal battles and internal disputes continue to shape its affairs.
