The Deputy Minister of Information, Dr Jacob Maiju Korok, said that the Minister of Energy and Dams, Peter Marcello, presented to the cabinet on 02 August the plan to build a five megawatt solar power plant in the capital city of Jubba.
The Minister of Energy of South Sudan, Marcello presented a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and the British owned international company TPA Company Limited.
Continuous energy in Juba
The purpose of this project is to provide continuous energy in the city of Juba.
The cost is estimated at US$150.2 million, and the maturity is 20 years plus a five-year grace period on a concessional loan. This project was discussed and approved jointly, Korok told the media.
He also reported that the Minister of Energy also asked his Finance counterpart to give a company that invested in a solar plant US$ 50 million after a court ruling.
Deputy Korok explained that the company sued the government in the United States Court of Arbitration after it failed to complete the 20 megawatt solar plant project in Nesitu as planned.
On Friday, the National Cabinet approved the draft budget for 2024/2025 focusing on the salaries of civil servants and organized forces and the reduction of unavoidable travel.
The budget is estimated at 4.2 trillion SSP, with a fiscal deficit of 1.9 trillion SSP.
