Starlink was considering doubling subscription prices in Nigeria but has now reversed this decision.
Earlier this month, it announced that the price of the standard residential plan with a 1TB fair usage policy would increase from $23.10 to $45.60.
However, the company later decided to withdraw this price hike. The reason cited was customer concerns regarding the price increase.
Starlink sent out an email to inform customers of the announcement, and many shared this situation on social media:
“Last month, we increased the monthly service price for Starlink in Nigeria to account for inflation, helping us maintain operations and continue delivering reliable service.”
“Today, we are temporarily suspending this price increase as we navigate regulatory challenges. We remain committed to providing high-speed Internet in Nigeria, but we need regulatory support to make the improvements necessary for a better customer experience.”
“Without these approvals, our ability to continue delivering service is at risk. You also have the flexibility to cancel your service at any time.”
It is believed that Starlink’s decision to withdraw the price increase was prompted by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) requesting Musk’s company to reconsider the tariffs.
Additionally, it has been noted that this decision may not comply with certain communication laws.
Nigerians are certainly pleased with this decision, but it remains uncertain whether a similar price increase will occur in the future.
