Sudan’s foreign ministry has denounced Kenya for hosting a political gathering in Nairobi involving factions aligned with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The ministry called the event an act of hostility, accusing Kenya of violating Sudan’s sovereignty and international law.
The meeting, held on Tuesday, aimed to form a new political coalition comprising political and armed groups backing the RSF. A political charter is expected to be signed within three days, followed by constitutional arrangements and the establishment of a government in areas under RSF control.
In a statement, Sudan’s foreign ministry condemned the event, asserting that it contradicted Kenya’s previous assurances that it would not allow anti-Sudan activities on its soil. The ministry accused Kenya of promoting divisions within African nations and interfering in Sudanese affairs, violating UN and African Union principles.
Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Youssif had met Kenyan President William Ruto in Nairobi on January 26, during which Ruto reportedly assured that Kenya would not recognize any RSF-led government. However, Sudan’s foreign ministry expressed regret that Kenya later permitted a gathering that included RSF leaders, whom it holds responsible for ongoing atrocities.
The ministry called on the international community to denounce Kenya’s actions and reaffirmed its commitment to reclaiming all RSF-held territories through military efforts.
