Sudan has called for an official apology from Uganda following controversial statements made by Uganda’s Chief of Defense Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who threatened to seize Khartoum on social media. Sudan labeled the remarks as reckless and dangerous, urging international condemnation.
In a statement issued by Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the comments were criticized as a violation of international law and an affront to regional security. The ministry described the remarks as “irresponsible” and a deviation from the expected conduct of high-ranking military and government officials.
The statement emphasized that such threats undermine the sovereignty of nations and violate the principles of mutual respect, international norms, and regional stability. Sudan called on the African Union and other international bodies to denounce these actions and uphold the tenets of international law.
Separately, tensions arose between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) after Kainerugaba made remarks targeting foreign mercenaries allegedly operating in eastern DRC. The DRC summoned Uganda’s Acting Chargé d’Affaires in Kinshasa for clarification.
The controversial statements, posted by Kainerugaba on social media, included a warning to foreign mercenaries, promising military action starting January 2025. His remarks have sparked diplomatic concerns and drawn criticism for escalating tensions in an already fragile region.
Sudan and the DRC have urged Uganda to address these provocative statements and ensure that such rhetoric does not threaten regional peace and cooperation.
