Sudan has called on the United Arab Emirates to cease all support for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and compensate for the destruction caused during the conflict. Foreign Minister Ali Yousif stated on Tuesday that these conditions are essential before any dialogue can proceed.
Yousif emphasized that halting military and logistical aid to the RSF is Sudan’s top demand. He accused the UAE of providing advanced weaponry, such as drones and missile systems, which has bolstered the RSF’s resilience against government forces for nearly 20 months. Sudan has lodged formal complaints with the UN Security Council and the African Union over these allegations.
The minister’s remarks coincided with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s offer to mediate between Sudan and the UAE. Erdoğan’s recent success in resolving tensions between Somalia and Ethiopia was noted as a testament to Türkiye’s growing influence in the region. While welcoming Erdoğan’s initiative, Yousif highlighted the intricate challenges facing Sudan’s conflict.
Yousif also reiterated Sudan’s rejection of talks involving the RSF in Geneva and dismissed upcoming peace consultations in Mauritania. He stressed that any progress in implementing the Jeddah Declaration, a ceasefire agreement, is contingent on the RSF adhering to its terms.
