Health officials in Uganda have confirmed an outbreak of Sudan Ebola Virus Disease in the capital, Kampala, following verification from three National Reference Laboratories. The first reported case involves a 32-year-old male nurse from Mulago National Referral Hospital (NRH), who sought medical attention at several healthcare facilities before the virus was identified.
In response to the outbreak, Uganda’s health authorities have quickly deployed rapid response teams to control the situation. Contact tracing is underway, with officials working to identify individuals who may have been exposed to the virus. Health authorities have reassured the public that all necessary measures are being implemented to prevent the spread of the disease.
Sudan Ebola Virus Disease is a highly contagious and often fatal illness caused by the Ebola virus. Early symptoms include fever, fatigue, muscle pain, and headache, followed by more severe symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and in some cases, bleeding. The virus spreads through direct contact with bodily fluids from infected individuals, as well as contaminated surfaces.
