Despite severe damage to its headquarters in Khartoum, Sudan National Television has successfully continued its broadcasts from Port Sudan.
The ongoing conflict between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which began on April 15, 2023, has caused widespread destruction to infrastructure, health services, and the economy across the country.
The TV station’s building in Khartoum’s Omdurman district suffered significant damage during the clashes. The RSF took control of the building, rendering the studios, conference rooms, and offices unusable.
However, by March 2024, the Sudanese Army regained control of the facility, and the television station moved its operations to Port Sudan. The station continues to provide news and entertainment to the Sudanese people, even with limited resources.
According to Anadolu Agency (AA), Ibrahim Mohammed Ibrahim Buzai, Director-General of Sudan National Radio and Television, described the station’s quick response to the crisis. He explained that the team had been aware of the tensions before the conflict and managed to keep broadcasts running, even switching to national songs during the violence.
Despite the challenges, the staff kept working, moving operations to Port Sudan and Atbara. A smaller team now operates with the help of local partners to ensure continued service to Sudanese viewers.
