Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council leader, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, met with Turkish Ambassador Fatih Yildiz in Port Sudan on Monday to advance cooperation on key issues including development projects, humanitarian relief, and air transport connectivity.
The talks followed recent discussions between Burhan and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and are part of broader efforts to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between Khartoum and Ankara.
According to Sudanese Foreign Ministry officials, the meeting emphasized upcoming Turkish-backed infrastructure and development initiatives aimed at supporting Sudan’s recovery. A major item on the agenda was the expected resumption of Sudan Airways flights from Port Sudan, scheduled to begin in early June.
Humanitarian assistance was another focal point, particularly the delivery of aid to crisis-affected areas in central and western Sudan, including Darfur. The region continues to endure severe humanitarian challenges, with the majority of the population in urgent need of support amid ongoing conflict.
General Burhan expressed gratitude for Türkiye’s solidarity during Sudan’s crisis and acknowledged Ankara’s role in recent diplomatic efforts, including its participation in the London donor conference earlier this month.
Ambassador Yildiz highlighted several outcomes from Burhan’s recent visit to Turkiye for the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, where further bilateral cooperation was discussed. He also confirmed Turkish Airlines would soon resume direct flights to Sudan and that Türkiye’s Ziraat Bank plans to reopen a branch in Port Sudan.
The two sides are expected to continue building on their long-standing partnership through additional agreements in development, trade, and humanitarian affairs.
