The Sudanese army made significant advances in its battle for control of Khartoum and the neighboring city of Bahri on Monday, capturing several key neighborhoods.
The army said in a brief statement that it had advanced along the Kober Bridge and taken control of the Universal Hospital in the Kober district. It also cleared the area of Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia that had occupied infrastructure and converted it into military bases.
These advances bring the army closer to fully securing Bahri and the East Nile region. In Khartoum, the army captured the Abu Hamama neighborhood in Al-Sajana, in the south-central part of the capital, and removed RSF checkpoints along Al-Sajana Street, a vital road into the city center of Khartoum.
With these gains, the army now controls most of Khartoum’s south-central neighborhoods, as well as most of Bahri and Omdurman, a city west of the capital. However, parts of central Khartoum, including the presidential palace, remain under RSF control, and some eastern and southern areas are still contested.
