The Sudanese army has seized control of Al-Sajana, a strategic neighborhood south of central Khartoum, marking its first advance to the city’s southern entrance amid ongoing clashes with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
According to a statement released on Thursday, the army’s Armored Corps has also secured Al-Hurriya Bridge, a key route leading to the city center. The latest advance brings the army closer to encircling central Khartoum, where key government buildings, including the presidential palace and international airport, are located.
Video footage shared by the military shows army troops deployed in Al-Sajana and at the Al-Hurriya Bridge intersection, which leads to the Arab market in central Khartoum. The RSF has yet to comment on the development.
As the army continues its offensive, RSF territorial control has been shrinking in central Sudan, including Khartoum and Al-Jazira states, as well as in parts of White Nile and North Kordofan. However, the paramilitary group still maintains dominance over four of Darfur’s five states.
