Intense fighting erupted in central Khartoum on Tuesday as Sudan’s army launched an offensive against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), advancing toward the Presidential Palace, which the RSF has held since April 2023.
Military sources reported that clashes broke out as RSF fighters attempted to deliver supplies and ammunition to their forces inside the palace, located near the Blue Nile River. With the army’s control over Khartoum Bahri since January, the RSF units within the palace are now under siege.
The army has secured key positions around central Khartoum, pushing forward from the southwest and reclaiming the Abu Hamama intersection. Troops advancing from the General Command headquarters have also taken control of the Byblos Bank building near Al-Mak Nimir and Al-Baladiya Streets, moving closer to the palace.
Meanwhile, artillery fire from Omdurman targeted RSF positions across central, eastern, and western Khartoum, with plumes of smoke rising from multiple areas as the battle for the city intensifies.
