The Sudanese army announced on Tuesday that it successfully lifted a prolonged siege on Damazin, the capital of Blue Nile state, pushing back the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). This operation reopened critical routes and ended months of isolation.
The army regained control of the Damazin-Sinjah road, connecting it to the capital of Sennar state, alongside the towns of Abu Hajar and Wad al-Nil. SAF confirmed the areas were now clear of RSF forces.
Since June, the RSF had controlled much of Sennar state, severing supply lines to Damazin. This blockade led to severe shortages of essential goods and forced many residents to seek refuge in Gedaref state.
The ongoing conflict between SAF and RSF, which began in April 2023, intensified in Sennar state. The military reclaimed Sinjah on November 23 after fierce clashes. Unverified videos shared online showed SAF troops celebrating their victories in Wad al-Nil and Abu Hajar.
