Sudanese army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan visited the Jebel Moya region in Sennar state, just days after his forces successfully reclaimed the strategic mountain range from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Burhan’s visit was intended to uplift the spirits of his troops, who regained control of Jebel Moya on October 5 following intense clashes. This victory has effectively severed crucial RSF supply routes in eastern Sudan.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Sovereign Council noted, “Burhan visited the Jebel Moya area, where the army, along with supporting forces from the General Intelligence Service and local resistance groups, achieved a decisive victory over the Rapid Support Forces.”
Social media footage captured soldiers enthusiastically welcoming Burhan during his visit to Jebel Moya.
Continuing his tour, Burhan visited the Wadi Sayidna air base, where he met with military pilots and expressed appreciation for their contributions to the campaign against the RSF.
The RSF had seized control of the mountain range in late June, disrupting supply lines from White Nile, Kordofan, and Darfur to eastern Sudan. They also launched attacks from Jebel Moya, aiming to capture much of Sennar state, including its capital, Sinjah.
The recapture of Jebel Moya marks a significant achievement for the army, which began a major offensive against the RSF in Khartoum on September 26. This operation has since extended to other regions, including Sennar, Gezira, and Darfur.
