The Sudanese military refuted claims by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of advances in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, affirming the city is under government control. The army also reported ongoing successful offensives against RSF positions.
On Tuesday, the Sudanese army rejected reports that the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) had gained ground in El Fasher, North Darfur’s capital. The Sixth Infantry Division, tasked with security in the city, firmly denied social media rumors that the RSF had bypassed army defenses at key locations like the main market and police headquarters.
“The situation in El Fasher is fully under control, and our forces are advancing on all fronts,” stated the division. The army further emphasized its continuous ground and air attacks targeting RSF strongholds.
Spokesperson Ahmed Hussein Mustafa, representing an alliance of armed groups supporting the army, also declared that the city remained secure. He accused the RSF of spreading false information to create panic among the population.
Mustafa highlighted the successful repulsion of over 150 RSF assaults by a coalition that includes the army, the Joint Force, the Popular Defence Force “Qashn,” local police, and the General Intelligence Service. He mentioned that the coalition was preparing to launch a larger offensive aimed at eliminating the RSF and their affiliates from the Darfur region entirely.
El Fasher remains one of the few urban areas in Darfur still under government control, and the RSF has been attempting to seize it for several months.
