The Sudanese army reported shooting down seven drones launched by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeting army and allied positions in El Fasher, North Darfur’s capital, as intense fighting between the two factions escalated.
The army, along with joint and reserve forces, claimed responsibility for intercepting the drones while preventing RSF militia from infiltrating deeper into El Fasher. Asia Al-Khalifa, spokesperson for the Sixth Infantry Division Command, shared these developments in a video posted on the army’s social media pages. She also mentioned that the army had received ammunition manufactured in the UAE, accusing the RSF of removing manufacturing marks to hide the origin—a claim that could not be independently verified.
Witnesses confirmed ongoing battles, particularly in El Fasher’s eastern and southeastern parts, where both sides utilized heavy weaponry. The Sudanese air force carried out strikes on RSF positions in the eastern part of the city, while the RSF fired artillery at neighborhoods in the west, north, and the southern livestock market. The army retaliated with artillery fire.
Since May, El Fasher has been a battleground, with the RSF seeking to seize the city, one of the central government’s remaining strongholds in Darfur.
