The Sudanese military reported that it is closing in on various Rapid Support Forces (RSF) positions in the Al-Mugran region of Khartoum, with plans to reach the army’s general command headquarters in eastern Khartoum within days.
During a televised briefing to officials in Omdurman, an army spokesperson stated that the military has transitioned to an offensive approach across multiple fronts, enabling it to cross from Omdurman into both Khartoum and Khartoum North (Bahri) as of September 26.
The spokesperson highlighted that the army has launched attacks on three fronts within Khartoum state, primarily targeting areas to the north of Bahri.
After successfully crossing the Halfaya Bridge, the military claimed it has regained control over regions north of Bahri, successfully coordinating with forces stationed in Omdurman.
Additionally, a military contingent has made notable advancements in the Al-Muqran area, situated near the heart of the capital, following their crossing of the White Nile Bridges from the south of Omdurman. This location is home to critical government facilities, including the Republican Palace and federal headquarters.
The military’s objective is to push further eastward toward the army’s general command headquarters, which has been under siege by the RSF since the onset of the conflict in mid-April.
The spokesperson further noted that the Armored Corps forces operating south of Khartoum have achieved significant progress, aiming to reach the Pioneers Towers and the army’s key base near Al-Muqran, which fell into RSF hands in June 2023.
He indicated that the offensives were initiated when the RSF was at its most vulnerable, predicting an imminent collapse of their forces.
The army also announced that it has secured the Al-Mugran water station, which had previously been utilized by the RSF as a sniper position.
The Khartoum State Water Authority confirmed the military’s control of the station and is currently working to remove unexploded ordnance from the site.
Ongoing Conflict
Despite these developments, fighting continues. Local sources reported that the army is actively bombarding RSF positions in Khartoum with both warplanes and drones.
Witnesses noted that drone strikes were focused on RSF positions surrounding Sports City and the Armored Corps in southern Khartoum, with smoke visible rising from various neighborhoods.
Artillery exchanges between the army and RSF forces have also been documented throughout the capital.
Additionally, clashes have been reported in southern Khartoum North.
