Sudan’s SPLM – Revolutionary Democratic Current, led by Yasir Arman, has called for a unified civilian alliance to end the ongoing conflict and foster lasting peace. The group emphasized mutual concessions and comprehensive dialogue among revolutionary forces.
In a statement issued on November 24, the Current outlined a roadmap prioritizing a ceasefire, humanitarian aid, and civilian protection as essential steps before any political negotiations. The statement urged revolutionary groups to collaborate, stressing that internal compromise is necessary to form a powerful bloc capable of addressing Sudan’s crises.
The Current expressed support for the Nairobi Agreement, signed by prominent Sudanese leaders, including Abdel Wahid al-Nur, Abdel Aziz al-Hilu, and Abdallah Hamdok. The agreement aims to address the root causes of Sudan’s conflict and establish a peaceful and inclusive state. Additionally, the group backed efforts by the Ba’ath Party and called for dialogue with the Sudanese Communist Party to broaden unity efforts.
To strengthen alliances, the group proposed independent negotiations among factions, advocating for the expansion and reform of coalitions like “Tagadum” and the “Radicals Alliance.” It highlighted the need for increased participation of women and youth in both humanitarian and political spheres.
The statement underscored Sudan’s precarious situation, citing threats to the nation’s sovereignty, resources, and unity. It concluded with a call to action: “Confronting these dangers requires unity.”
Tagadum, led by former Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok, has faced criticism for its response to human rights violations during the conflict, which began in April 2023. The Sudanese military, accusing the political coalition of ties with the Rapid Support Forces, has issued international arrest warrants for its leaders.
