The Sudanese army has regained control of Al-Rahad in North Kordofan after intense clashes with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), marking its second major victory in the region within weeks.
Al-Rahad, a key railway hub and trade center, had been under RSF control since the early stages of the conflict. The army’s recent advance follows its recapture of Um Ruwaba on January 30, another strategically significant city in North Kordofan.
Military sources confirmed that troops coming from Rufa’a in Al-Jazirah State launched an offensive in Al-Samih, inflicting heavy losses on RSF fighters and capturing several combat vehicles. Meanwhile, airstrikes targeted an RSF convoy, reportedly eliminating three high-ranking commanders in the Kordofan region.
The “Al-Sayyad” mobile force, consisting of troops from the 16th Infantry Division, has been steadily advancing from White Nile State, engaging in fierce battles against RSF fighters attempting to halt their progress.
With the recapture of Al-Rahad, the Sudanese army is working to break the RSF-imposed blockade on El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan, where residents are facing severe humanitarian hardships due to restrictions on aid and trade routes.
