SuperSport United has announced the signing of left-winger Abubeker Nasir from reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
Last week, before Orlando Pirates’ 2-0 victory over SuperSport United, head coach Gavin Hunt mentioned that the squad was struggling with injuries and a lack of depth. Previously, SuperSport United had also faced a 4-0 defeat against Kaizer Chiefs, further highlighting their squad issues. This transfer will likely provide much-needed relief for the team.
Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngqithi had already informed the media about the transfer, but the official announcement came today. Abubeker Nasir is a talented player, but due to long-term injuries and subsequent dips in form, he struggled to get regular playing time at Sundowns.
SuperSport United, one of the stronger teams in the league, has had a poor start to the season, collecting only 4 points from 5 matches. Therefore, high expectations are placed on Nasir to make a significant impact.
