After suffering a 4-0 defeat against Kaizer Chiefs, Supersport United will face Orlando Pirates, who were also defeated in the cup match.
Supersport’s coach stated that their squad is inadequate compared to Orlando Pirates, who are competing at the top of the league. Following Orlando Pirates’ first loss of the season, a strong response is expected against Supersport United.
Supersport United coach Gavin Hunt made the following statement regarding the match:
“The next game is always the most important. We go again against Pirates. We are so short in numbers [suggesting their squad is thin] but we’ve got to pick ourselves up and go again.”
Supersport United was reduced to 10 men in their match against Kaizer Chiefs in the 79th minute when Chadian midfielder Gape Morola was sent off. Morola will be a big loss for the team as he will be suspended for this match.
While Supersport United has 35 registered players, many of them are inexperienced youth players, and the injuries of Bradley Grobler and Grant Margeman have put coach Hunt in a tough position.
Additionally, the team has been struggling significantly in front of goal recently, with only one win in six matches. Coach Hunt also commented on the heavy defeat in their previous game:
“I feel like we created so many opportunities [against Chiefs] and we didn’t take them. The scoreline is certainly not the true reflection of the game. We should have scored but you can’t fault the commitment and effort. I think we played really, really well, but you have to score and that’s something we need to work on.”
