Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan has extended rescue operations following the collapse of a building in Dar es Salaam’s Kariakoo area, which has claimed 16 lives so far. Rescuers have saved 86 people, but several remain missing. The President remains hopeful that survivors may still be found, even beyond the critical 72-hour rescue window.
Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has instructed police to locate the building’s owner as part of an ongoing investigation. A detailed government report on the incident is expected soon.
In response to the tragedy, President Hassan has also ordered a thorough inspection of all buildings in the Kariakoo area to ensure structural safety and prevent future incidents.
