Tanzania’s Prime Minister, Kassim Majaliwa, has called on political party leaders to prioritize peace during the upcoming local government elections and to actively discourage any actions that could incite unrest. Majaliwa emphasized the importance of peace and voter participation during a recent symposium hosted by the Shia community.
Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa urged leaders of political parties to take a stand for peace ahead of Tanzania’s local government elections, set for Wednesday, November 27. Speaking at a general assembly organized by the Shia community, Majaliwa appealed for party leaders to motivate their members to vote while maintaining peace and unity. He emphasized that all registered voters should actively participate in the elections to ensure a peaceful, democratic process.
The prime minister reminded Tanzanians that the election day would be a special public holiday for voting purposes, urging citizens to make their voices heard and to fulfill their constitutional duty. Local government elections are critical in selecting leaders who are key to fostering community harmony, such as village chairmen and street leaders.
Majaliwa also commended the role of religious leaders, echoing President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s calls for continuous promotion of peace and stability. He recognized the vital contributions of religious institutions in supporting the government’s efforts to improve social services and maintain peace in the country.
In his remarks, Sheikh Alhad Musa Salum, chairman of the Inter-Religious Peace Committee of Tanzania, praised the Shia community’s significant efforts in promoting peace. He acknowledged their dedication to ensuring the nation remains secure and stable
