Serengeti Balloon Safaris has been named the world’s best balloon ride operator, marking a historic first for an African company. This recognition was announced at the prestigious World Travel Awards held in Madeira, highlighting the company’s commitment to excellence and innovation in Tanzania’s tourism sector.
Meanwhile, Zanzibar reported a significant 15% increase in foreign tourist arrivals last month, reinforcing the region’s growing appeal to global travelers.
Serengeti’s Award-Winning Experience
Known for offering breathtaking aerial views of the Serengeti National Park, Serengeti Balloon Safaris has long been a leader in adventure tourism. Managing Director John Corse expressed pride in the achievement, noting it as a testament to the company’s focus on safety, innovation, and unforgettable guest experiences.
“We aim to deliver a journey that exceeds expectations, blending adventure with conservation,” Corse remarked. He highlighted the company’s expansion into Tarangire National Park, offering guests a new route over scenic landscapes and wildlife-rich areas.
The inaugural Tarangire flight in June 2024, featuring sightings of elephants, buffalo, and various bird species, ended with a luxurious breakfast under an acacia tree. Marketing Manager Pascal Kirigiti emphasized the company’s dedication to enhancing customer experiences, noting that Tarangire now joins Serengeti, Ngorongoro, and Ruaha as premier ballooning destinations.
Zanzibar’s Tourist Boom
In Zanzibar, tourism officials announced a sharp rise in visitor numbers, with 69,860 tourists arriving in October 2024, a 27.1% increase from the previous year. European tourists dominated, making up over 70% of arrivals, with France and Germany leading the way. Emerging markets such as Poland, India, Russia, and China also showed growth.
Most visitors arrived by air, with the majority landing at Zanzibar’s airport, while a smaller number entered through the seaport. The average length of stay was eight days, reflecting the destination’s appeal for extended vacations.
Tourism Minister Mudrik Ramadhan Soraga urged continued efforts to maintain peace and security, emphasizing their importance for sustaining growth in the tourism sector.
As Tanzania continues to position itself as a top destination for adventure and cultural tourism, both Serengeti Balloon Safaris and Zanzibar’s booming visitor numbers highlight the nation’s potential for further growth and international recognition.
