A comprehensive analysis of 2,384 reviews submitted by safari-goers and global safari experts has recently unveiled the top 50 safari parks in Africa.
Leading the 2024 list is Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park, which has been crowned the best safari park on the continent, as confirmed by SafariBookings.com representative, Anita Kovalevska.
Ruaha National Park, celebrating its 60th anniversary, made its debut in the rankings, securing the 4th position.
Another Tanzanian gem, Katavi National Park, also claimed a spot in the top 10, ranking 10th.
In total, four Tanzanian parks were honored in the 2024 rankings: Serengeti in 1st place, Ruaha in 4th, Ngorongoro Crater in 9th, and Katavi at number 10.
SafariBookings.com, the largest online platform dedicated to African safaris, conducts this annual review to identify the top 50 safari destinations in Africa.
For the fifth year running, Serengeti National Park has been recognized as the top choice, an unsurprising outcome for travel enthusiasts and nature lovers.
With an overall score of 4.85 out of 5, Serengeti outperformed all other parks in the analysis.
This extensive study included 1,239 reviews submitted by safari travelers from 74 different countries.
The parks ranked in the top five are: Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park, Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve in South Africa, Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park, Ruaha National Park (Tanzania), and Botswana’s Okavango Delta.
Additional parks in the top 10 include Chobe National Park and Moremi Game Reserve, both in Botswana, Kenya’s Maasai Mara Game Reserve, Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Crater, and Katavi National Park.
The remaining 1,145 reviews were contributed by prominent international safari experts, including guidebook authors from well-known publishers such as Lonely Planet, Rough Guides, Frommer’s, Bradt Travel Guides, and Footprint.
Serengeti National Park was praised for its vast landscapes and diverse wildlife, which make it a premier destination for safari enthusiasts. The park is also home to the breathtaking annual migration of 2.5 million wildebeest and zebras, a phenomenon that draws significant global attention.
Even outside of the migration season, Serengeti remains a must-visit location, with rich biodiversity and picturesque scenery throughout the year.
Serengeti’s fifth consecutive win as Africa’s best safari park is a testament to its enduring appeal, despite stiff competition from other parks across Tanzania, East Africa, and Southern Africa.
The study assessed 196 parks across 15 African nations, including Botswana, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Only parks offering classic wildlife-viewing safaris were considered, and parks focused primarily on landscapes or primate tracking, such as gorillas or chimpanzees, were excluded from the analysis. Additionally, parks with fewer than 9 reviews were not included in the final rankings.
