Tanzania has once again been recognized as the World’s Leading Travel Destination by the World Travel Awards, marking its second consecutive year of this prestigious accolade. This achievement highlights the country’s growing appeal to global travelers, bolstered by President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s strategic initiatives, including the widely successful “Royal Tour” film.
The film, which offers a captivating look at Tanzania’s landscapes, wildlife, and cultural heritage, has played a crucial role in raising the country’s international profile. Produced in partnership with filmmaker Peter Greenberg, it showcases Tanzania’s iconic destinations, such as Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and Mount Kilimanjaro, sparking interest among potential visitors.
Tanzania’s tourism success has been further affirmed by the award for Thanda Island, located in Mafia District, which was named the World’s Leading Exclusive Private Island for the second year running. These accolades emphasize the country’s growing prominence in the global tourism market.
President Samia’s efforts, including the “Royal Tour” and “Amazing Tanzania” films, have played a central role in highlighting the country’s tourism potential, particularly targeting the American market. The films have not only showcased Tanzania’s natural wonders but also promoted its investment opportunities and cultural richness.
The impact of these initiatives is evident in Tanzania’s tourism growth. In 2023, the country welcomed over two million international visitors, generating an impressive $3.5 billion in revenue. Tourism now contributes significantly to Tanzania’s economy, accounting for 17.2% of the national GDP and a substantial portion of Zanzibar’s GDP.
This economic recovery, coupled with Tanzania’s growing international recognition, underscores the effectiveness of President Samia’s visionary leadership. Moving forward, collaboration between the government, private sector, and local communities will be key to sustaining this momentum and ensuring long-term success in the tourism industry.
