The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the 2024 African Player of the Year Awards will be held on December 16, 2024, in Marrakech, Morocco.
With this announcement, it is confirmed that Morocco will host the event for the third consecutive year.
CAF takes into account not only national team performances but also club achievements when awarding this prestigious honor. Last year’s award was won by Victor Osimhen, who delivered an outstanding performance for Napoli.
However, this year, Osimhen has not been able to maintain his form and has not played as much as expected. As a result, there is speculation that the award may change hands.
Among the top contenders this year are Ademola Lookman, who led Atalanta to their Europa League victory by scoring three goals in the final, Victor Boniface, who has been exceptional at Bayer Leverkusen, and Serhou Guirassy, who has been carrying the goal-scoring burden for Borussia Dortmund.
In addition to the Best African Player of the Year award, other categories include Club of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, and Coach of the Year.
