Mohamed Salah has renewed his contract with Liverpool, ending speculation that he would leave the club this summer.
Salah’s contract was set to expire at the end of the season, which would have allowed him to join another team without a transfer fee. However, the Egyptian star signed a new two-year deal with Liverpool, extending his stay with the club.
After signing the contract, Salah sat on a throne set up in the middle of Anfield. Liverpool made this gesture as part of his signing ceremony. Following the event, he made the following statements:
“Of course I’m very excited. We have a great team now. Before also we had a great team. But I signed because I think we have a chance to win other trophies and enjoy my football.
“It’s great, I had my best years here. I played eight years, hopefully it’s going to be 10. Enjoying my life here, enjoying my football. I had the best years in my career.
“I would like to say to [the fans], I am very, very happy to be here. I signed here because I believe we can win a lot of big trophies together. Keep supporting us and we’ll give it our best, and hopefully in the future we’re going to win more trophies.”
Liverpool fans responded warmly to the club’s celebration event. The club made this gesture for Salah because he is considered a legend for the team. The Egyptian has played 393 matches for Liverpool, scoring 243 goals and providing 109 assists.
Next season, football fans will also have the chance to watch another Egyptian talent, Omar Marmoush, compete in the Premier League—setting up an exciting rivalry between the two.
