Orlando Pirates, currently second in the South African league, will face MC Alger, the leaders of the Algerian league. AS FAR, who had a disappointing start to the Moroccan league and are eager to make up for it with a trophy, will try to eliminate Pyramids, one of Egypt’s in-form teams.
One of the tournament’s favorites, the Egyptian giants Al Ahly, will aim to reach the semi-finals without stumbling against Sudanese powerhouse Al-Hilal. Meanwhile, the high-flying South African side Mamelodi Sundowns will try to maintain their momentum and avoid elimination against Tunisia’s Esperance.
The CAF Confederation Cup matchups are also quite intriguing. Stellenbosch FC, currently 7th in the South African league with games in hand, will face Zamalek, who sit third in the Egyptian league.
Ivory Coast’s Mimosas will take on the red-hot Moroccan team RS Berkane, who dominated Group B with 16 points and currently lead their domestic league by a staggering 13 points.
The third quarter-final will be an all-Algerian battle between USM Alger and Constantine, as they fight for a spot in the semi-finals.
