The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has appointed three new second-class Emirs for the Rano, Gaya, and Karaye emirates.
This announcement was made early Wednesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature. The newly appointed Emirs are: Alhaji Muhammad Mahraz Karaye, previously the District Head of Rogo, now the Emir of Karaye; Alhaji Muhammad Isa Umar, formerly the District Head of Bunkure, now the Emir of Rano; and Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir Gaya, who served as the emir of the defunct Gaya emirate and is now the Emir of Gaya.
These appointments are effective immediately.
Governor Yusuf extended congratulations to the newly appointed Emirs, urging them to safeguard the cultural heritage, peace, and unity within their respective emirates.
On Tuesday, July 16, the governor enacted the Kano State Emirate Council Establishment Bill 2024 into law, following its approval by the Kano State House of Assembly on the same day.
During the signing ceremony, Governor Yusuf underscored the law’s importance in preserving the rich cultural values and traditions of the state. He emphasized that the legislation aims to strengthen the relationship between grassroots communities and the government.
The law establishes three second-class emirates: Rano, encompassing Rano, Kibiya, and Bunkure Local Government areas; Gaya, covering Gaya, Ajingi, and Albasu Local Government areas; and Karaye, comprising Karaye and Rogo Local Government areas.
